Just Energy Director
Position Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

PSE seeks a thoughtful, dynamic, and courageous emerging leader to serve as the Just Energy Director.

Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy & Engagement, the Just Energy Director will be responsible for leading, building, and maintaining a strong energy program team that includes the direct supervision and development of six (6) full-time staff. The Just Energy Director will help facilitate power-building and racial equity for systems transformation through our energy justice and climate work. The position will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the activities of Just Energy Portfolio while working collaboratively with internal and external partners. The Just Energy Director will serve as a subject matter expert in racial equity, environmental justice, climate, power-building, equitable institutional systems management, and effective community engagement/organizing strategies that catalyze change for marginalized communities in the American South.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates are looking to grow in their careers and have backgrounds and resumes that reflect the following:

A deep commitment to racial equity and climate justice in the American South

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Political Science, Sociology, Public Policy, Public Administration, Anthropology, Organizational Leadership or a related field

A minimum of 5 years' experience in the nonprofit, government, or environmental justice sector with at least 3 years working in a management role with supervisory experience

Deep understanding of the intersectionality between the racial equity, economic justice, and climate justice movements

Thorough and current knowledge of energy and sustainability practices, applicable laws and regulations

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external parties

Demonstrated experience conceiving, developing, and implementing strategic initiatives within an organization

Strong program management skills, including managing complex, multifaceted projects and teams, resulting in measurable success, program growth, and accountability

Superlative and creative problem-solving and analytical skills

Solid professional reputation among colleagues

Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

Experience using financial systems, basic accounting, and practicing fiscal sustainability A deep commitment to racial equity and climate justice in the American South

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Political Science, Sociology, Public Policy, Public Administration, Anthropology, Organizational Leadership, or a related field with 3+ years’ experience in a leadership role in a nonprofit organization

Superior leadership and interpersonal skills and abilities, particularly in the areas of emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and change management

Expert team builder with the ability to build lasting relationships quickly with staff, funders, external allies, and partners
